You guys – I am getting super impatient. We are so close but still haven’t started laying tile. We had a little plumbing situation due to our house being super old and weird, and that set us back quite a bit. But we are finally bouncing back from that and I’ll be starting to actually lay some tile and have some fun very, very soon!
This renovation / construction delay got me thinking about all the final little touches and details, so I’ve been really focusing on the décor and design aspect of everything – pinning my heart out and ordering a ton of décor!
First, I made a mood board so I could concretely nail down the design elements I was certain about (for example, the tile (*DUH*), the vanity, and the shower/bath and sink hardware/faucets from Mr. Direct.
Here’s my Pinterest Board, too:
The Design
I wanted the bathroom to feel bright, fresh and airy, and be mother-nature-inspired with some modern and rustic vibes. So, it started with those absolutely stunning Cabin Fever tile from Jeffrey Court at Home Depot:
This tile is even prettier in person – I love the color and the nod to nature with the tree trunk cross-section style of the tile. There is a ton of variety across tiles, too! It is perfect for my bathroom floor.
To keep things bright and neutral so I could draw attention to the natural elements, I opted for the Allegro Subway tile from Jeffrey Court at Home Depot:
This tile will go on the walls of the shower, the full wall of the vanity and toilet, and halfway up the other walls. This will give it a nice, cohesive feel all around.
I wanted the sink and shower faucet and hardware to have some nice contrast and make a statement. I chose this insanely stunning antique bronze (in keeping with my rustic natural vibe) hardware for Mr. Direct.
I chose a wide-set faucet because I think it looks a lot nicer than a 4-inch centerset faucet. And lets talk about that rainhead shower! I am soooooo excited for that!
I wanted to add some additional wood elements to the bathroom, so I chose these wall shelves to add storage and contribute to the design aesthetic. I love that they have a built-in towel rod, too! I bought the 2-ft size to go over the toilet and the larger one to go on the opposite wall to hold the larger towels.
Then I went crazy on décor! It’s hard to know exactly which items I’ll end up using, but since this is a renovation challenge with a deadline, I want to be as prepared as possible, so I’m buying a ton of stuff to try out and then I’ll just return (or re-locate) whatever I don’t end up using in the bathroom. I definitely want some natural basket elements, and I’m torn between a lighter / more traditional basket color or a darker basket (so, you guessed it – I’ve been buying both)!
The jury is still out on several important items. I bought a mirror today – its not the perfect one that I want (rectangle or square with rounded corners and a super thin, modern frame in antique bronze – someone please find this for me at a reasonable price. $600 is not reasonable.)
I still don’t have a shower curtain picked out. I really want glass doors but I don’t think that’s going to work for this bathroom. So, what I really want for the shower curtain is a simple bright linen with tassels. No other details – so I’m on the hunt for that. Here are some that I’m considering:
Finally, a very important part: the bath mat! I am not one for traditional bath mats, I much prefer to use normal runner / accent rugs because they just look so much better in my opinion. I haven’t found the perfect one — I know what I want but I just need to find it!
So, stay tuned! I can’t wait for the final reveal! Or, ya know, to finally start putting tile to wall and floor. Finally.
