High Point is a market. It’s about buying and selling things. It’s about consumerism, and wants, and aesthetic, and trends …
Which is why I was so delighted to see two new major patterns emerging at the mainstream level this year:

First, the story and intention behind many brands.
Second, the focus on sustainability – which honestly needs it’s own blog post (or 5!).
Intention
As part of the Design Influencer’s Tour at High Point, we had the opportunity to hear first hand from brands the story they wanted to tell.
Shifman Mattress
I googled “Shifman Mattress” and all of the results were things like “World’s Most Comfortable Mattress,” “Top Luxury Mattress,” “Top 2021 Mattress.” And all I can say is — Shifman Mattress understood the assignment. Listening to them speak about the mattresses and their company made it clear: these titles were earned through true, true commitment to making quality mattresses and box springs without cutting any corners.

I was blown away and honestly inspired by Shifman Mattress. Their mattresses have been handmade in Newark, NJ using time-tested techniques since 1893… that’s almost 130 years! I was also really excited to learn about the natural and sustainable materials. They even have a few vegan mattresses (no down or wool) — hooray!!

I had the pleasure of testing out these mattresses in person, but you can take this quiz to help find your perfect night’s sleep!
Innovation Living
Running Airbnb’s and living in old, small houses in Charleston has lead me to have a great level of respect for quality sofabeds and multifunctional furniture pieces.
Enter: Innovation Living
I have spent hours and hours shopping online for sofabeds for our Airbnb – it is NOT EASY to find sofabeds that are comfortable enough, quality enough, and aesthetically pleasing. Until Innovation Living entered the chat. I’m going to let photos do the talking here:

Edward Fields is another emblem of quality and craftsmanship, and they have truly stood the test of time. The have carpeted the White House! Plus, they literally coined the term “AREA RUG” … so you know when they release a line of area rugs, those rugs are going to be everything this brand has come to represent.
These rugs are made from wool – so I asked them about the treatment of the sheep that the wool comes from. I did not expect them to have any answer, let alone an answer that made me comfortable with their products. But hooray! They were able to tell me the farm/region, diet and lifestyle of the sheep and I was so happy!
