Demo day!

We’ve started demolotion of the bathroom for this fall’s Better Homes and Gardens One Room Challenge! We’re doing this demolotion in peices so we can still use the toilet and sink/vanity until the last minute since its in our bedroom. But we’ve demo’d the tile around the shower / tub in preparation for the window installation, which should happen next week. Once the window is installed, we’ll replace the tub (which we weren’t planning to replace – but once we did the shower wall demo, we realized the tub was broken in one corner so we’ll replace the tub) and then tile the shower walls. In order to provide some aesthetic contrast with the vintage-style copper toned oil-rubbed bronze shower hardware and sink from Signture Hardware at Build.com and the rustic looking floor tile, I picked a large white subway tile for the shower walls. It’s shiny and with a bit of texture – again playing with a vintage modern feel. I plan to install this with a vertical in-line pattern, keeping things clean and modern. Then we’ll finish framing out the window and probably remove the old vanity at that point and do the bathroom floors in that stunning rustic looking Affinity Tile Royals collection tile from Build.com.
The jury is still out on what I’ll do with the non-tiled portion of the walls… will we leave the bead board on the bottom half? Will I do a super cool metallic patina wallpaper, or will that be too much for this somewhat tiny en suite master bath? Only time will tell… because, as is the case every time I do a One Room Challenge, I don’t know myself! We’ll see where my gut takes me as we go. It hasn’t led me astray yet!
