It’s finally complete! I’m so in love with our Better Homes and Gardens One Room Challenge master bathroom renovation. Our Signature Hardware bath/shower hardware and vanity sink from Build.com are as stunning as I dreamed they would be and truly are the focal pieces of the room. I love how our “old meets new” tile combo turned out with the modern large subway tiles in a modern vertical grid pattern combined with the rustic, old-world style floor tile! Both are Affinity Tile from Build.com.

First, a little reminder of the “before” – moldy, tiles fallling off, dingy and dark! Not to mention the seashells sink (which I secretly like, but I admit is dated and Cory was not a fan!).

Lets start with the tiles!

The floor tiles are absolutely stunning and I will definitely be using this line (the “Royals” line from Affinity Tile) in other projects. There are a few styles of patterns and they come in a few colors – black, sage, a gorgeous terracotta and a nice indigo blue. Plus, I am now a MAJOR fan of the large tiles with built-in-grout lines. It makes it so much easier and faster to lay the tiles because the tiles basically come in a large square made up of what “looks like” 4 tiles and there are built-in grout lines. So once you grout, each tile looks like it was 4 tiles. So smart!
I’ve got a new appreciation for grid-lay patterns for subway tile. I thought this pattern would be a lot easier than the standard “brick-lay” pattern. But, quite the opposite. When you have the grid pattern, it’s so much easier to notice any variation in the lines – aka, any place where things get out of alignment. Luckily, the 12×3 inch subway tiles I used are intentionally imperfect – which makes it SO MUCH more forgiving! They have a stunning finish, too – a high gloss over a slightly wavy facade makes them very beautiful and gives them a much richer artisanal feel. These little details really make all the difference!
On to the Vanity!
If you haven’t noticed, I’m a huge fan of vanities that have a little shape/depth to them and stand on legs. Both of these features can make a smaller space feel bigger! I chose the Berkeley 47″ Vanity from Build.com – it’s gorgeous an elevated; the multidimensional front really adds a ton and makes spaces feel bigger because you account for the two depths mentally and it really deepens the room – it’s somewhat of a fantastic optical illusion for smaller bathrooms like ours. The white marble countertop is gorgeous as well! Plus, it came with both brushed nickel and oil-rubbed bronze drawer and cabinet pulls, and the oil-rubbed bronze matched our Signature Hardware sink and other hardware perfectly!

Speaking of which… let’s move onto our Signature Hardware vanity sink and shower/bath hardware that we got from Build.com!

We kept this bathroom design very simply and bright because the sink and shower are the true stars in here! They are absolute works of art, and the gorgeous oil-rubbed bronze tone contrasts perfectly with the lighter and brighter colors we chose for this bathroom. Keeping with our “old meets new” theme for this bathroom, I chose a rustic, vintage shape for our sink hardware – the Signature Hardware Saint Martin Widespread Bathroom Faucet. The oil-rubbed bronze is this gorgeous slightly coppery-tone. It’s very rich and just stunning!

Similarly, I loved the idea of exposed shower piping in the bathroom to allow us to both truly highlight the shower/bath fixture as a statement piece and to further emphasize our “old meets new” concept. So, I kept it very simple with the white subway tile and grout so the shower would truly stand out!
It was important for us to also have a separate hand shower in here for giving our newborn baths as she grows up and for washing our dogs, since our other bathrooms don’t have a hand shower at the moment. So, this Signature Hardware Dolwick Exposed Shower System with Rain Shower Head and Hand Shower was perfect!

One of the best things I’ve come to appreciate about Signature Hardware is the variety of accessories available with their products and the ability to customize things. For example, there are a variety of different shower arms we can choose from to customize the height of the shower even after the plumbing and other drilling has been done that just screw in and out of the existing fixture!
There are also tons of accessories so you can customize your bathroom to meet your needs and because this oil-rubbed bronze hue is so rich and unique, we knew we wouldn’t be able to match it with other oil rubbed bronze colors on the market, so it was really great that Signature Hardware had so many options! We outfitted our bathroom with a shower/bath grab bar, robe hooks, a towel bar, hand towel bar, and a toilet paper holder all in Signature Hardware’s Oil-Rubbed Bronze. We got extra robe hooks because we like to hang plenty of towels and robes in our bathroom and also keep fresh, ready-to-use ones on the shower bar folded nicely.

Let’s talk about this game-changing frameless Miseno mirror from Build.com! First, the LED lighting from the border of the mirror is truly a must for makeup application and other beauty rituals – especially with the built-in magnified and further lit circle! I’m already obsessed – this bathroom has gone from dingy and poorly lit (and a place where I’d never do my makeup!) to the place in my house with the best lighting for makeup! Woo hoo! Plus, its touch-free; to turn it on, you just wave your hand in front of the sensor. How cool! I feel so fancy whenever I use it. We’ll file this in the “new” column of our “old meets new” bathroom! Plus, the mirror was very, very easy to install – you install a ledge that the mirror comes with and hang the mirror onto that ledge, and the fit is very secure!

Finally, we went with a Kohler classic matte black 4-light vanity light from Build.com. The matte black grounds things and I love the “blown glass” look of the clear glass shades, which tie in with our “old world” artisanal fixtures and floor tile perfectly!
